What to know

A renewal starts with assessment

The pharmacist needs enough information to assess whether a renewal is appropriate. The medicine, condition, stability, monitoring, recent changes and follow-up plan can all matter.

Renewal is not automatic

Some prescriptions or situations require the original prescriber or another health professional. After reviewing the request, the pharmacist will tell you who needs to follow up.

Plan ahead

Contact the pharmacy before medication runs out. Assessment, prescriber communication, an appointment or product availability may require additional time.
